How to use Luntsi
From installation to the social media image. If anything is unclear, ask support.
Installation
Luntsi is installed like any WordPress plugin. Requirements: WordPress 6.6 or newer and PHP 8.1 or newer.
- In the WordPress dashboard open Plugins → Add New Plugin and search for Luntsi. Install and activate.
- Open Lunch menu in the menu and write this week's lunch.
- Add the menu to your pages: the Luntsi modules in Divi 5, the Lunch menu widgets in Elementor, the blocks or the shortcode.
- Open Lunch menu → Settings and add your prices, lunch hours and meat origin.
Luntsi is on wordpress.org: wordpress.org/plugins/luntsi. The plugin's interface is in English; Finnish and Swedish translations arrive through translate.wordpress.org.
Writing the week
Open Lunch menu. The editor shows the current week Mon–Fri (or Mon–Sun according to the settings). Write one dish per line for each day and the diet markings in parentheses after it:
Pea soup (L, G)
Pancakes with jam (L)
Vegetable soup (VE, G)
- Copy previous week fills in the week with last week's menu, so you only change what's different.
- The arrows move between weeks. Next week's menu can be written in advance and appears on the right day.
- An empty day shows on the page with the text "The menu for this day will be published soon".
- If the restaurant is closed, mark the day as closed.
- Save with the button or Ctrl+S (Mac: Cmd+S). The editor warns about unsaved changes.
Settings
Lunch menu → Settings holds the details shown next to the menu:
- Prices, for example "Lunch €13.50 · Students €12.30".
- Lunch hours, for example "Lunch on weekdays 10.30–14.00".
- Lunch includes, for example salad bar, bread and coffee.
- Meat origin line by line: "Beef Finland", "Pork EU". Restaurants in Finland must display the origin country in writing.
- Serving days: 5, 6 or 7 days a week.
- Public holidays automatically: on or off.
- Diet markings: L, VL, M, G, K and VE out of the box. Add your own or edit the labels.
- Accent colour, logo and contact line for the social media image.
Menu on your pages
Divi 5
Add the Luntsi: Today's lunch module to the front page and Luntsi: Lunch menu week to the lunch page. The modules preview right in the Visual Builder, and Divi's own design settings (font, colour, spacing) work.
Elementor
The Today's lunch and Lunch menu: week widgets are in the Luntsi category. The Style tab sets the accent, text and line colours, typography and spacing.
Block editor
The Today's lunch and Lunch menu: week blocks.
Shortcode (other themes and Divi 4)
[luntsi] today's lunch
[luntsi view="tomorrow"] tomorrow
[luntsi view="week"] the whole week
[luntsi prices="no" origins="no" link="https://example.com/lunch/"]
[luntsi view="week" info="no"]
The look follows the theme. The accent colour is the CSS custom property --luntsi-accent, and the templates can be overridden by copying templates/today.php or templates/week.php to the theme's luntsi/ folder.
Social media image
The editor's Image for Facebook and Instagram section draws a ready-made image of the week's menu: portrait A4 for Facebook and 4:5 for Instagram. The image has your logo (or the site name), your accent colour and a contact line. A long menu is fitted automatically, and closed holidays show in the image.
On a phone the image opens straight in the share sheet; on a computer it downloads as a JPEG. The image is drawn in your own browser, not on a server.
Lunch editor role
Create a user for the kitchen with the Lunch editor role (Users → Add User). The Lunch editor sees only the lunch menu in the dashboard and lands on it right after logging in. They have no access to pages, posts or settings.
Public holidays
Finnish public holidays (New Year's Day, Epiphany, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, May Day, Ascension Day, Pentecost, Midsummer Eve and Midsummer Day, All Saints' Day, Independence Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and St. Stephen's Day) are marked closed automatically. Easter Sunday and Pentecost are Sundays, so they only matter if lunch is served on Sundays too. If you're open on a holiday, open the day in the editor with Open on this public holiday. The automatic holidays can also be turned off in the settings.
Caching
The page carries the current and next week's menu, and the right day is picked in the visitor's browser in the site's time zone. That's why a page cache or CDN won't show yesterday's lunch. Luntsi also clears the most common caches (LiteSpeed Cache, WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache, WP Super Cache, SiteGround, Breeze, Nginx Helper, Cloudflare) when you save and right after midnight.
If you insert a view with JavaScript, call window.Luntsi.refresh().
Luntsi Pro
Pro is a separate plugin that requires free Luntsi. Enter the licence key in the WordPress dashboard under Lunch menu → Luntsi Pro (button "Activate License"), and lunch lines, locations, the dish bank and allergens, the info screen (/?luntsi=screen), the printable A4 menu, the reminder email and the extra image templates become available. See Pro pricing.
